THANK YOU!
From the very beginning of our journey, to where we are now, none of it would be possible without the generosity of so many people.
We feel that as we continue on this path, we are strengthened with our mission and vision to being able to provide families a chance to live free of oppression and war. Your continued support is appreciated and by donating today, you are helping make this vision a reality.

REUNITE THE MGENI FAMILY
In 2018 the Powell River organization Hands Across the Water sponsored a second refugee family to Powell River, BC. The Mgeni family had to flee their home in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) due to war and violence, eventually ending up in Osire, an enclosed UN refugee camp in Namibia (see photo). Tragically, the family of nine lost their mother to illness, and their father is still missing due to the war. Three of their sisters are also missing. Five siblings, ages 27, 23, 15, 13 and 8 were sponsored in a joint initiative of the government and Hands Across the Water, and now reside together in Powell River. The two older siblings have been given custody of the three younger siblings by the Canadian Court. In addition, the 27 year old has now given birth to a beautiful baby boy and her husband is one of the people we hope to bring over next.
This campaign is to re-unite the Mgeni family with five loved ones who remain in the refugee camp, including their older brother, his family, and the 27 year old's husband.
With your help we are hoping to raise the needed funds to reunite this family with their 5 loved ones left behind. Bringing the Mgeni older brother (and his family), as well as the husband, to Canada will strengthen the family in many ways, including more assistance with taking care of the younger three siblings and the baby.
Thanks to fundraising initiatives and all of your help we are now only $8,000 away from our goal.
According to the UNHCR in 2017 44,000 people per day were forcibly displaced from their homes “fueled in large part by new crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Myanmar, as well as the ongoing conflict in Syria…the [refugee] population swelled by a net 2.9 million last year, raising the cumulative total to 68.5 million”. The refugee crisis around the world is astounding and tragic.
Please help us make a difference in one family’s life.
